Committee meets on transfer of NTC-INDU Mill land
 Mumbai 29th March

 The committee appointed under the chairmanship of Textile Secretary of Govt of India held its meeting today at New Delhi. It was decided to work out modalities of compensation to be given to National Textile Corporation by Government of Maharashtra as against the transfer land of 12.03 acrs for the proposed Grand Memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Amedkar.   

In pursuance of the decision taken in the meeting of the all-party delegation with  Prime Minister on December 31, 2011 and subsequently committee was set up vide  Office Memorandum of the Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India dated 2nd January 2012.

Today the first meeting of this Committee under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Textile Govt. of India held at Udyog Bhawan at New Delhi.

Considering the in principle approval by the  Prime Minister, it was decided at the outset itself that the entire 12.03 acre land of the NTC shall be transferred, to Govt. of Maharashtra for developing a Grand Memorial of Bharat Ratna Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar.

The modalities for making available the above land for the proposed Memorial which was submitted by Govt. of Maharashtra were discussed in detail. It was committed by the Maharashtra delegation on behalf of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prithviraj Chavan that NTC shall be adequately compensated for the land alienated by NTC in favour of the Grand Memorial.  It was explained by Secretary Textile, Govt. of India that a final decision in this regard would be require formal clearance of the BIFR.

The delegates of Govt. of Maharashtra led by Chief Secretary outlined the process through which the environmental, legal and development plan related procedural requirements should be met so as to effect the transfer of land for the Memorial. While accepting the broad contours of the process, the Committee decided that detailed compensation modalities be worked out   by Govt. of Maharashtra and NTC so that a final decision can be arrived. The next meeting will be held in the first fortnight of April 2012.

The meeting was attended by Smt. Kiran Dhingra, Secretary, Textiles, Govt. of India, Shri Ratnakar Gaikwad, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Maharashtra, Shri Subodh Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, Mumbai, Shri T.C.Benjamin, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development, Shri A, K, Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Shri Bipin Mallick, Resident Commissioner, Govt. of Maharashtra, Shri P.S.Pillai, Chairman, NTC, Shri Sujit Gulati, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textile and other officials of the Ministry of Textiles.
