State Infrastructure Projects Would Sooner Get Green Signal : Prithviraj Chavan
CM Led Delegation Meet Prime Minister And Other Union Ministers
New Delhi, November 13:  In a bid to get all the decks cleared pertaining to all the issues concerning Maharashtra’s infrastructure, the Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan led a high-level delegation to meet the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.  After the meeting, Chavan assured of speedy clearance to all projects needing Central Government approval.
             In one and half hour long meeting held at 7 RCR, deliberations on various issues took place.  Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Union Finance Minister P.Chidambaram and Planning Commission’s Deputy Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia were present.  Shri Chavan was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, Chief Secretary J.K.Banthia, Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation’s Vice-President and Managing Director Tanaji Satre and Urban Development Secretary, Manu Kumar Srivastava.  Issues concerning Greenfield Navi Mumbai Airport, International Airport at Chakan, Pune, Churchgate – Virar Elevated Suburban Rail Corridor, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), Shifting of Doppler Radar in Mumbai, Metro Corridor-III Colaba-Bandra SEEPZ, Salt Pan Land, Indu Mills Land were deliberated at length.
             The Navi Mumbai airport is likely to take off now as it has got the signal from project-affected people (PAPs).  They will get 22.5 percent of the developed land with an average 2 floor space index (FSI).  Farmers have been assured of adequate compensation. The land acquired would be constructed into a state-of-the-art airport with amenities matching international standards.  A commercial centre would also be developed and the area around would be known as Pushpak Nagar.  In order to expedite all the clearances needed in this regard, Shri Chavan urged the Prime Minister to personally intervene in this regard. Around 10 cr passengers would commute in the initial phase once commissioned.
             In an effort to throw another life line to Maharashtra’s trophy infrastructure project involving Rs 9630 cr MTHL, Shri Chavan urged the Prime Minister to declare it a ‘National Project’ and provide substantial financial assistance of project cost. The project involving a total distance of 22 km would help seamless and speedy link from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, Pune, Goa and South India
             A series of infrastructure projects are in the pipeline. Of which, the Elevated Suburban Rail Corridor between Mumbai Central and Virar Station needs to be completed in January 2014.  Shri Chavan sought prime minister’s intervention to remove bottlenecks and help granting necessary clearances at the earliest.  Shri Chavan also discussed on the issue of shifting of Doppler Radar to any open area of higher altitude in Mumbai which is presently installed at Colaba. This would help in having an early warning system of rains and there by minimize future damages.
             In a series of meetings, Shri Chavan called upon Union Textile Minister, K.S.Rao and Union Shipping and Transport Minister, G.K.Vasan.  Later in the day, he also addressed a press conference at Women Press Club and interacted with women journalists.
